How To Get Warm in Bed Quickly

Winter is fast approaching, and the cold weather can make it hard for you to sleep. However, you don’t need to worry. There are many ways to keep yourself warm and toasty, even during the most chilling of nights. For warm and cozy sleep this winter season, you just need to follow these tips.

 

1. Warm yourself up with the right gear and practices.

  • Put on pajamas.

More often than not, the perfect pajamas are the key to sleeping warm and comfortably. It’s best that you choose a pair made of silk because the material can keep you warm without making you sweat all over your bed.


  • Wear thick socks.

Your feet tend to be the coldest parts of the body, so they would understandably benefit from additional warmth. A nice way to keep warm when sleeping is to wear thick wool socks. Like flannel, they’re great insulators, which means your feet are going to stay warm for the entire night.


  • Cover your head.

You’ll also sleep a lot better if you keep your head warm. Wear a knit cap, bonnet, or a winter hat with ear flaps for when the night is extra cold. When you cover head along with your extremities, you’re going to retain more heat throughout your entire body.


  • Drink something warm before going to bed.

While this obviously does not involve wearing anything made for cold weather, this will still help you tremendously when it comes to keeping your body temperature at a comfortable level during the winter. Drinking a warm beverage can do wonders for your sleep on a cold winter night. This is because internal body heat is as important to external body heat when trying to keep warm. Maximise your rest by drinking something that aids in sleep like warm milk or chamomile tea. If you don’t have either of those, even warm water will suffice.

 

2. Warm up your bed.


  • Use an electric blanket.

Electric blankets are widely popular in places with strong winters such as Europe and North America, and for good reason. A decent electric blanket can keep you warm and comfortable, ultimately leading to better sleep at night.

 

They’re an effective yet relatively inexpensive way to stay warm while sleeping during winter nights. To get your money’s worth, buy an electric blanket with the following features:

  4. Washable and easily cleaned

  • Add layers to your sheets, blankets, and pillows.

During the winter season, it’s important to pile up your bed with sheets, blankets, and pillows. The added layers will insulate your bed, thereby warming its temperature considerably. For maximum effect, get thicker sheets made of flannel, as the material is soft and very warm. You can also get sheets made of fleece or silk. You should also surround yourself with extra pillows. Depending on the size of your bed, you’ll need between two to four pillows.


  • Get the right mattress.

A good mattress for regulating body temperature is one made of polyurethane foam, because it adjusts to your body heat and keeps you warm in the winter. Buying a good mattress is a worthwhile investment, so don’t buy the cheap ones. You’ll just end up replacing them sooner or later.

 

3. Optimize your room’s climate.


  • Adjust your thermostat accordingly.

About half an hour before you sleep, check your thermostat to make sure it’s at the proper temperature. While the comfortable temperature differs from person to person, the recommended temperature for cold nights is about 64°F (18 °C) to 70°F (20°C).


  • Don’t let the cold air in.

To avoid waking up in the middle of the night due to cold gusts of wind coming into your room, eliminate any possible source of cold air. This means closing all doors, shutting down and locking your windows, and drawing your curtains. 

 

Some people feel the air becomes too dry when all windows are closed. In this case, you can open the window slightly and let some fresh air in. This should bring enough moisture for your home.

 

  • Improve your home’s insulation.

Yes, home insulation can get expensive, but good insulation also saves you a ton on heating and electric bills. Shop around by asking different insulators for quotes, and then decide on which one gives the best possible value for your money.
