Here’s a scenario that’s all too common these days: Your phone keeps buzzing late into the night — often coming with a stream of notifications and messages — breaking what could have been a full night’s sleep. And while this is the kind of situation that many consider to be “normal,” it doesn’t change the fact that it’s far from ideal.

However, a good night’s sleep isn’t just a mark of having good time management — it’s a sign that your living conditions are well-suited to your lifestyle.

Think about it: getting a good night’s sleep means more than just resting. It gives your brain a chance to restore and fixate on the important matters of the day. Being well-rested is the best advantage you can give yourself. Think about it: It says something about the nature of sleep when the most common thing you can be envious about is someone else who’s had a good rest.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to get to where these lucky, sleep-enriched individuals are as well. Here are 5 products that can help you get sweeter dreams - and a better awakening.

  • Ambient lighting sleep systems

There have been numerous studies on how the ambient lighting is when we’re asleep - and some of it builds on what’s common sense. Typically, the best way to sleep is when all the lights are off - but how about falling asleep? Or waking up?

That’s where ambient sleep systems come in. They monitor and shift your room lights to dim and brighten when necessary, recreating the natural cycle of sunrise and sunset that the human body uses as an internal clock to judge time. Lighting is controlled via timers and/or sensors that detect your state and respond once you’ve fallen asleep, or when it’s time to wake up.

  • Air purifiers

Especially useful for asthmatics, air purifiers are handy to keep around if you’re in an environment that isn’t exactly balanced when it comes to humidity or odour. Aside from unwanted scents, air purifiers can also get rid of germs, and even release odours that can help us sleep better (lavender and chamomile come to mind).

  • Sound machines

It may seem a bit strange, but sound can actually lead to better sleep. While we all usually prefer to sleep in silence, there are some sounds that correspond to our brainwaves and functions while we’re in slumber. Listening or replaying these sounds could potentially help us sleep better, while also allowing our brains to process information that we have learned throughout the day much more efficiently.

Some sound machines go even further and actually cancel out sound around your sleeping area - a feature welcome in most of today’s metropolitan sleeping quarters, or places that aren’t particularly quiet.

  • Memory foam mattress

What’s not to like about memory foam? Able to mold to your natural sleeping shape and designed to be as ergonomic and comforting as possible, memory foam could almost be considered made to fit. More supportive and comfortable than normal foam mattresses, memory foam continues to become a staple for those looking to sleep well and comfortably at night.

  • Electric blankets

As far as concepts go, electric blankets are simple - but innovation has given us something much more than just a simple hot blanket. Research and development brings us a blanket that’s designed for the best warmth and comfort: the 4D Dynamic Warmth Flow Blanket. Maximising temperature around the sleeper, it promises to be one of the best innovations to sleeping aids.

We’ve previously talked about how ambient lighting affects slumber - and the 4D DWF blanket allows simple blankets to become more comfortable, breathable, and more efficient at temperature control than most electric blankets. A stable, restful temperature makes for better sleep, and far better awakenings.

Sleeping aids and gadgets don’t just bring back the rest in sleeping - they can also provide respite to those who can’t sleep as well. For those who live in cold conditions, or have difficulty falling asleep, sleep aids are the gates to getting themselves much-needed slumber.

Whether it’s be for work the next day, a condition or sickness you need to sleep off, or just plain laziness - a good night’s sleep is the best thing you can give yourself.
