Heat therapy is well known to help you relax and also has mild pain-relieving properties, as well as stress relieving properties. Heat therapy, or heat and warmth in general, give you a comforting feeling and can be used in many different ways to make your day better. There are various items that can help you relax thanks to heat – in this article we’ll see how heating cushions can benefit you thanks to their versatility and their convenience.

  • Relieving lower back muscle tension

Lower back pain is a plague to a lot of people and is often hard to get rid of. Heat is a drugless way of making you feel better and can take care of mild pain. Our perception of pain is directly linked to our perception of danger and safety, and a source of warmth gives us this feeling of safety.

In order for it to help you with lower back muscle tension, position the cushion behind your back when relaxing at home, or even at work thanks to its versatility and portability.

  • Relieving neck stress

Neck pain is becoming more and more common because of the current working environment which is often associated with sitting several hours in front of a computer. Place the heating cushion behind your neck in order to relieve the stiffness and relax your muscles.

  • Relieving sore legs

Legs can get painful after some over-exertion. Just think about the pain you get after you start some new form of exercise! Pain medication often does not help in that case, but placing a heating cushion under your legs while laying can help you relax your thigh and calf muscles, as well as your feet.

  • Alleviating menstrual pain

Menstrual pain (or dysmenorrhea for those of you who are into medical terminology) is the most common gynecologic condition in women and can be very uncomfortable. A recent study showed that heat can help alleviate pain during periods. Placing a heating cushion on your stomach and hugging it can soothe your discomfort (Please keep in mind that heating cushion is NOT a medical product and does NOT intend to cure pain.)

The study also showed that the effects of heat might be even better than using pain medication (on top of not having side effects)1. Definitely worth a try.

  • Find comfort to fall asleep

A heating cushion can help you find the necessary comfort to fall asleep. The mechanism behind this effect, is that the cushion will make you feel safe and comfortable and when the heat turns off, the resulting body temperature drop (which sounds paradoxical) will emulate the natural body temperature drop humans have while falling asleep. As a consequence, you will get to sleep more easily.
